Sally Owen – Dancer, Actor, Choreographer, Director

Sally’s career, as performer, choreographer and director, has embraced formal contemporary dance, physical theatre, devised comedy and community arts. Sally has created roles with many companies including Ballet Rambert, Second Stride, The Lindsay Kemp Company, London Mime Theatre, Direct Current, The Rosemary Butcher Company, Gateway To Freedom, Women’s Comedy Workshop, Cryptic Theatre, and Fife Performance Ensemble.

She has choreographed and directed work for Ballet Rambert, Scottish Dance Theatre, Le Compagnie Renaud-Barrault, Nederland’s Dance Theatre 2, Women’s Comedy Workshop, Transitions Dance Co, David Glass Co, Ra Ra Zoo and National Youth Music Theatre amongst others.

From 1996 – 2006, Sally was Co-Director of Intoto Dance at London Studio Centre, and from 2003 – 2013, she was the Assistant Director of Scottish Dance Theatre. Collaboration and teamwork have always been a key interest, and

Sally has produced collaborative work with directors Simone Bemmussa (La Compagnie Renaud-Barrault), David Glass (David Glass Ensemble), Dominic Hill (Dundee Rep Ensemble), Liljana Ortolia (Women’s Comedy Workshop), and with performers Nola Rae (London Mime Theatre) and Judith Williams (The Letter J).

In 2011, Sally teamed up with Janet Smith (Scottish Dance Theatre) to create “What On Earth!?”, a new work for children.

Recent work includes: movement direction and choreography for “The Red Shoes” (Tramway), and “Grandad and Me” (The Letter J); choreographing and performing with From Here To Maturity and with the Fife Performance Ensemble. Sally was also a devising performer in Cryptic Theatre’s “These Delicate Things”, directed by Josh Armstrong.
